    عصرنا الحاضر بحق عصر الابتکار والعلوم والتکنولوجيا, فهو يحتاج لکوادر بشرية تستطيع مواکبة ومسايرة التقدم العلمي والتکنولوجي وتقديم الجديد والفريد والمبتکر, وأصبح الاهتمام بالتفکير الابتکارى يمثل أحد الأهداف الأساسية في شتى المجالات وبالأخص في مجال تصميم الأزياء ، حيث تسعى المؤسسات التي تعمل في هذا المجال لتحقيق الجانب الأبتکاري من خلال تطبيق البرامج العلمية لتنمية الثروة البشرية التي تسهم في مواجهة مشکلات وتحديات الحاضر والمستقبل ومسايرة التقدم في جوانب الحياة المختلفة .
    وتعد خامة الريش من الخامات الابتکارية والتي استخدمت بأشکال عديدة علي مر العصور وقد حرصت معظم الحضارات القديمة علي استخدامه کوسيلة للزينة المضافة ، ومن هنا ترجع أهمية البحث في توضيح وإبراز دور الريش کخامة إبتکارية في مجال تصميم الأزياء و التعرف علي خامة الريش وامکانتها التي تؤهلها في تنمية الابتکار والإبداع في مجال تصميم الأزياء وکذلک تاريخ استخدام الريش في تصميم الأزياء خلال الفترات المختلفة من القرن العشرين ، مع إلقاء الضوء على بعض من مصممي الأزياء العالميين الذين استخدموا الريش في تصميماتهم ، وتقديم مجموعة من التصميمات المقترحة التي توضح مدى الاستفادة من الريش کخامة إبتکارية في مجال تصميم الأزياء .
 
    Our present age is really the age of innovation , sciences and technology . It needs human cadres to go along and cope with the scientific and technological progress and to provide the new, unique and innovated . Concerning with the innovative thinking has become one of the main targets in all fields especially in costume designing . The institutions which work in this field are looking forward to achieving the innovative side through applying the scientific programs for developing the human capital which contribute to facing the problems and challenges of the present and future and going along with development in the different sides of life .
    Feathers ore is considered one of the innovative ores which has been used in different ways over the ages . Most of ancient civilizations have used it as a means of added embellishment .The importance of this research is in clarifying and  manifesting the role of feathers as an innovative ore in costume designing field and identifying the ore of feathers and its potentials which qualify it in developing innovation and creativity in costume designing field . Moreover, the history of using feathers in costume designing within the different periods of the Twentieth Century . Furthermore , shedding light on some international costume designers who have used feathers in their designs .Also, presenting a collection of the proposed designs which show the utilization of feathers as an innovative ore in costume designing field .
